Anne Whalen, principal of Anne Whalen Business Consulting, has over twenty-five years of proven success with small profit and non-profit businesses, as well as non-profits of all sizes. The range of business consulting functions we offer puts her well-honed accounting and management acumen, exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to motivate people, to work for you.
A Madison native, Anne is a graduate of West High School and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Career opportunities took her to the Washington, D.C. area for several years where she worked at the National Library of Medicine. During that time Anne’s attention to detail and exceptional interpersonal and management skills were recognized and redirected her into business management in the human resources field. Close family ties brought Anne back to Madison where she spent the next six years with a small business initially as business manager, and then broadened her skills as customer relations and sales and marketing administrator.
In 1988 Anne became business manager for the Attic Angel Community (an outstanding non-profit senior living community). She was responsible for financial services, information systems and human resources. As a member of the management team she facilitated TQM/CQI and participated in long-range strategic planning. During a five month transition period between executive directors she was appointed interim administrator and received commendation from the board of directors for excellence. She was appointed Director of Finance. After receiving her Nursing Home Administrator’s license she became executive director and was responsible for all facility operations which included nursing, staff development, social services, activities, marketing, business, human resources, food service and maintenance. She created a physical therapy department during her tenure and played a key role in the feasibility, design, development, financing, construction and move to a new state-of-the-art 10-acre senior living campus. She accomplished this by building and managing a cohesive, empowered management team with an emphasis on excellence. Anne was a major force in the creation of a Madison area long-term care alliance to effectively meet needs for the aging in Dane County.
After 13 years with Attic Angel Anne chose to move on to work as business manager of a medical consulting enterprise to spend more time with her two daughters before they flew the nest. In September 2008 when the principal retired she chose to develop her own consulting business. Currently she is an ongoing business manager for a non-profit organization and provides a wide scope of services to individuals and small businesses. Anne’s breadth of experience provides a wealth of insightful guidance.
